new moniter issues?

So last night my regular monitor died, and I'm using a spare. Which is actually newer and higher quality than my old one, lol, so I think I'm sticking with this.

But, mon amis, anything anti-aliased looks terribly weird. The only way to describe this is ... that everything looks like it's been run through the goddamn "Sharpen" filter in Photoshop.
EVERYTHING anti-aliased.

Does anyone know a setting to try and adjust in order to help?
(I've toyed around in settings to get it less dark, dingy, and smushed so far.)

My great aunt (recently) gave us her new computer, cause typing on a desktop hurts her joints too much.

Thus why the spare is new.
